Dealing with divorce
When your marriage has broken down beyond repair, it can still be a difficult decision to formalise things by going through with a divorce. There are many areas that need to be worked out between the parties involved and this is usually best done by a solicitor.
Who gets what is very often the first question on people’s minds when they’re going through a divorce. Usually there will be a raft of possessions to be sorted out, many of which will have been bought together. If the split from your husband or wife has been acrimonious, then reaching agreement on dividing up household items and personal belongings can be very difficult and only make matters worse. It’s far better to keep a level head and do this through your solicitor as it will be less stressful and the list of who gets what will be official.
Living arrangements both during and after a divorce can cause a lot of emotional stress. Often one half of the couple will leave the marital home and have to find alternative accommodation while things are sorted out. Divorces can be a lengthy process and being away from the place you’ve called home for a long time can be very hard to adjust to. Once your divorce has been finalised, the marital home may have to be sold off so both parties can begin their separate new lives.
Arranging custody of any children you’ve had together is another part of divorce proceedings that can be fraught with stress and difficulties. It’s a very emotional issue and there may be a number of reasons why one party considers themselves to be the most suitable parent to bring up the children. The services of a solicitor are vital to sort out what can be a complicated legal issue that may even end up in court if no agreement can be reached.
The financial implications of divorce can be far reaching. If you’re used to having two salaries and living a certain lifestyle it can be a shock to the system when you find yourself having to budget on only one wage after a long period of financial stability. There are of course legal costs associated with divorce but these are a necessary expense in order to get everything arranged legally so you can move on with your life.
